For those of you who clicked over here thinking I was one of those moms who can control how much t.v. my kids watch with a special timer, I’m sorry, you’ll be disappointed. But if you’re a momma like me who just needs a few minutes alone first thing in the morning before you hear, “Mom! She won’t pour me some cereal!”, then I think you’ll be happy with what I discovered.
I have children who wake up between 6:45-6:59 every morning. School, summer, after a late night watching fireworks… it doesn’t matter. They will be up early. Every morning, I would tell my son (and sometimes younger daughter) to “go back to bed until there’s a 7 in the line-leader’s spot”.
Apparently, they don’t like that answer, so they go ask their sister to help them. She normally would be up too, so it was no problem. But this summer, my oldest has started wanting to sleep a little later (like 7:22), and she gets mad when the “little kids” want the t.v. turned on. So, I did what any good mom would do and I taught my 6 yr. old how to work the t.v. flicker for the t.v./cable. What? Don’t judge me!
Then SHE started sleeping until 7:16, and got mad when her brother would wake her up. What’s a sleepy mom who wants a shower to do, right?
One night I decided to set the t.v. timer so it would automatically turn off when my hubby feel asleep with the t.v. blaring, again… And there was my solution: the t.v. timer could also be used to turn on the cable to a certain channel at a specific time. So, now our cable turns off at midnight each night and onto PBS at 7a.m. each morning. All my son has to do is wait for the “7 to be the line leader” and he can just turn the power on on the t.v. He can let his sisters sleep 12 more minutes and I can catch a shower while he’s waking up to Clifford Puppy Days. The added bonus is that the t.v. won’t work before 7 and I never wake up at 3:30 a.m. to an infomercial blaring and my hubby snoring.
All that works for me!!!

that’s pretty smart!
That’s funny! I’m glad my kids don’t wake up that early anymore! Geesh!!
My son has shifted from a 5:30am waker to a 6:00am person. I’ll take anything I can get. Let’s hope he keeps adding 30 minutes to his sleep until it’s around 7am! That I can live with.
BTW, how’s your husband? I read your previous post.
I LOVE IT!
