This week’s WFMW is a “Mom, I’m bored” edition. One of the ways I’ve tried to avoid the kids being bored is by making a list of some things we’d like to do this summer. Most of the items were fairly inexpensive to free.
The list includes:
1. Go to park and swim in wading pond
2. Playdough or Moon Sand (a project that should only be done outside!)
3. Go to the Library Programs on Thursday (They even have a singing Zoologist one week. How entertaining!)
4. Use our season passes to the local theme park.
5. Go to free movies.
6. Eat lunch at the Train Depot Cafe.
7. Attend our VBS.
8. “Paint” with water and paint brushes outside
9. Go to the jumpers at the mall.
You get the picture. I try to alternate playdates with days of movies, games and general hanging out around the house because even kids need downtime. On those days I get my school planning done for the fall.
After actually reading Shannon’s suggestion for this week and realizing mine isn’t very unique, I thought I’d add that we do a bit of school too over the summer. We do the fun things we meant to do all school year: Spanish, more music, lots of art. We also will do local Texas history and the history of the town we moved to last fall. If we don’t get to it, it’s no big deal. With all the art projects I planned to go along with the books, the kids are bummed when we don’t do them.
Have a great summer and here’s to not being bored!

I love summer because we finally get to relax, sleep late, and do some fun things. My problem is that I always have all these grand ideas at the beginning of the summer – things I want to accomplish while we aren’t so busy with school work – but then I find myself at the end of summer looking back and wondering why we didn’t get much (if any!) of it done! I think I try to stay so disciplined during the school year that we just kind of fall apart and relax too much during the summer.
I’ll have to follow what you started and make a list like that though! Great post!
that is a great list. I homeschool too. I take advantage of the summer free time by having us learn something that we usually don’t have time for during the busier part of the year. This summer my daughter and I will start learning Latin. Hopefully we will learn enough that it will be easy to keep it going once summer is over.
